Line can be defined as a continuous, consecutive series of adjacent dots.
A line;
- has a beginning and an end, a measurable length in two dimensional design
- can have a variety of characteristics (descriptions)
- can have multiple functions;
- define shapes (a space enclosed by a line is a shape)
- the character of a line helps define space within a two dimensional composition
- a line bisecting the picture format becomes the edge of separate two dimensional spaces
- direct the vision of the viewer
- define Linear Perspective;
- sequenced divisions of spaces between lines from more to less
- angles of lines in a defined space
- defines Point of View and Vanishing Point
- when repeated lines create;
- rhythm
- textures
- patterns
